В первой половине сентября 2007 года выходит новая версия САПР SolidWorks – SolidWorks 2008. Это шестнадцатый основной выпуск системы за десятилетие ее существования. Важно отметить, что основной упор в развитии SolidWorks делается не только на дальнейшем упрощении изучения и использования системы в сочетании с повышением функциональных возможностей моделирования, но и на развитии встроенных экспертных систем, берущих на себя наиболее сложные задачи проектирования, такие как анализ конфликтов разного рода, экспресс-анализ функционирования проектируемых изделий, оптимизация проекта. Всего новая версия включает более 250 изменений и нововведений.
